PET-Negative Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors

چکیده
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal malignancy of the gastrointestinal tract. PET/CT is a common diagnostic tool and is also used for therapy monitoring. GISTs typically show strong (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake. Here we present two cases of GIST with unusually low/negative FDG uptake. FDG negativity does not preclude the diagnosis of a GIST.

Introduction: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract. GIST has been shown to over-express c-KIT (CD117), the receptor tyrosine kinase. Imatinib (STI571 or Glivec) is a new type of tyrosine kinase inhibitor that selectively inhibits various tyrosine kinases and has been successfully used to trea...

Background: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) constitute the majority of gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors. They usually express a proto-oncogen protein called CD117 detected by immunohistochemistry. This study investigated the differentiation of GISTs as well as the risk of aggressive behaviors in GISTs from surgically-treated patients in university affiliated hospitals. Methods: The c...

BACKGROUND Because of the recent reclassification of mesenchymal tumors, which was based on a better understanding of the genetics and immunophenotype of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), only a limited number of studies have described the radiologic appearance of GISTs. METHODS This study reviews the imaging characteristics of GISTs, with an emphasis on differentiating benign and mali...

Gastric Schwannoma is a rare benign mesenchymal tumor that accounts for only 0.2% of all gastric tumors. The current study presents a case of gastric Schwannoma misdiagnosed as malignant gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) by esophagogastroduodenoscopy, endoscopic ultrasonography, and contrast-enhanced or not enhanced and (18)F-FDG PET/CT imaging.
